Clinical Observation of Intussusception

Abstract
This paper present 200 cases which were admitted to the Department of pediatrics, St. -Paul¢¥s Hospital from Jan, 1976 to July 1985.
The results were as follows;
1) On the age distribution, the age incidence under 1 year was most common(82.1%), :.and 30.5% of cases were between 7: months and 9 months of age. 2) The incidence rate of male to female was 2.2: 1.
3) On the seasonal incidence, the cases in the summer were most common(34.1%).
4) In 66% of cases, their body weights were over 50th percentiles.
5) Organic causes were found only in 9.5% of the cases and majority of cases(90.5%)
-showed no definite organic causes.
6) In previous illness, upper respiratory tract infection was most common (18.5%)
7) In analysis of anatomical type, the following were presented in order; ileo-colic(46.0 -%), ileocecal(17.5%), ileoileal(1.0%), ileocolocolic(1.0%).
8) The cardinal symptoms and signs were abdominal pain, irritability (87.5%), vom_ting ~(76%), mucous bloody stool(69.5%), palpable abdominal mass(61.5%), in order.
9) In X-ray film of flat abdomen showed the dilatation due to gas(57.5%) and phenomenon of fluid retention (10%) -
10) 90% of cases showed mucous bloody stool in glycerin enema.
11) 51% of cases showed 10,000 to 15,000 white cell count/mm3 in peripheral blood.
12) The reduction rate of barium enema was 61.5% and this rate was high in cases of
early visiting and ileo-colic type.
13) Recurrence after 1st reduction was occurred in 1. 5% of cases and postoperative complications were obtained in 1.5% of cases. Mortality rate was 0.5%(1 case).
